The house and its honour – Macht and Herrschaft in images and heraldic representations of the elites (1300-1700)

The project is devoted to the subjects of power and domination in late medieval and early modern images (with a special focus on secular wall paintings) as well as heraldic representations (including heraldic connoted pictures, objects, performative acts and architectonical structures). The project thereby focusses on elites who participate in (house-related) discourses on rule and order with images and heraldic ensembles, and who at the same time attempt to locate themselves within their own social fabric.
